Places We Gather

“Galatoire’s 2” Private Collection

Hi, Friends!

Do you have a special place that brings back fond memories of family and friends? Places that you can recognize by the smell? Places with special dishes that no one else can duplicate? Places that where you can feel the warm merriment that you felt there?

These questions are sparked by a few memories closely attached to long-standing establishments with traditions that have spanned generations, and several paintings have been inspired by them.  The Carousel Bar in New Orleans is one for me.  This spinning bar is  beautiful and unique.  These paintings began several years ago after a weekend in New Orleans with my husband.  After dining at Justine’s, we spontaneously popped there on our promenade back to where we were staying.  Serendipitously, Lena Prima, Louis Prima’s daughter, was singing. It was also the place we headed for a friend’s milestone birthday and after visiting the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit. In addition to the Carousel Bar, the others featured in this newsletter are Galatoire’s and Paladar 511.

I have enjoyed painting the often nostalgic places of my clients, and it has been so much fun hearing the stories associated with these places.  I would love to know the places you love to gather.

Thank you for your continued support of the arts!
